Emmaus North East is delighted to announce that it has secured funding for a second year of its successful Stop Smoking Programme, enabling the charity to continue supporting companions and members of the local community on their journey to becoming smoke-free.
The programme, which has already helped many people take positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing, will continue to offer personalised support tailored to each individual’s needs. Alongside supporting Emmaus companions, the service is also available to the wider community through free stop smoking drop-in sessions held at Lucie’s Laundry.
The drop-in sessions provide a welcoming, non-judgemental space where anyone looking to quit smoking can access free advice, practical guidance and ongoing encouragement. Whether someone is ready to quit immediately or simply wants to explore their options, the team is there to offer support every step of the way.

Many of the people Emmaus North East supports experience complex challenges, including homelessness, poor mental health, social isolation and substance misuse. Recognising that smoking is often closely linked to these experiences, the programme focuses on meeting people where they are, supporting them at their own pace and celebrating every milestone, no matter how small.
By creating a supportive environment where people feel heard and understood, the programme has helped participants make lasting changes that not only improve their physical health but also boost confidence, wellbeing and quality of life.
If you’re interested in quitting smoking or would like to find out more about the Stop Smoking Programme, visit one of the drop-in sessions at Lucie’s Laundry or get in touch with Emmaus North East to learn how the team can support you.
