Miller Homes has officially launched its new housing development on the former South Tyneside College site in South Shields.

Named Scholars Park, the development on Grosvenor Road will deliver 198 new homes, offering a range of three, four and five-bedroom properties. Prices start from £280,000.

The housebuilder said more than 1,800 people registered an interest in the development before its official launch.

Lauren Angus, Sales Director at Miller Homes North East, said: “Scholars Park is a truly unique development, offering buyers a fantastic choice of high-quality, sustainable homes in a desirable corner of South Shields.

“With over 1,800 people registering an interest prior to the launch and scores of people visiting the site throughout the weekend, we have been blown away by the response it has received.

“The feedback has all been very positive and we are looking forward to helping even more people secure their dream home at Scholars Park over the coming weeks and months.”

The development follows plans to relocate South Tyneside College and its marine school to South Shields town centre, with the existing college site earmarked for demolition.

Planning permission for up to 260 homes on the site was originally granted by South Tyneside Council’s Planning Committee in December 2023, despite objections from local councillors, residents and the town’s MP.

Miller Homes later took over the scheme from Avant Homes and submitted revised proposals to reduce the number of properties from 260 to 198, while also limiting the number of trees to be removed. Those revised plans were approved in March.

Following the launch, Miller Homes has opened a temporary sales cabin at Westoe RFC, where prospective buyers can find out more about the development. The cabin is open from 10.30am to 5.30pm, Thursday to Sunday.

The sales cabin will remain in place until the first show homes at Scholars Park open later this year.

More information about the development is available on the Miller Homes website.
