South Shields Football Club has confirmed that Mike Williamson will take on the role of Head Coach with immediate effect.
Mike brings a wealth of experience, strong leadership qualities, and a deep understanding of the game, and the Club is delighted to appoint him to the position.
Williamson has been part of the Mariners’ backroom team since January 2026, initially joining on a voluntary basis to support Ian Watson and Carl Magnay. He later moved into a full-time role as Director of Performance and Culture, where he has made a significant impact both on and off the pitch.

The Club believes this appointment is the right step forward. Mike has already embedded himself within the first-team environment, and his experience and track record at this level closely align with the Club’s long-term ambitions.
South Shields FC now looks ahead to an exciting new chapter under Mike’s leadership. The Club is confident that his vision, professionalism, and drive will play a key role in continuing progress both on and off the field.
Further updates regarding the coaching staff and preparations for the upcoming season will be shared in due course.
Chairman Geoff Thompson said, “Mike has quickly become a valued and influential figure within the football club. His leadership qualities, knowledge of the game, and understanding of what we are trying to achieve made him the outstanding candidate for the role.
We are excited to see him lead the team into this next chapter and wish him every success.”
